Not so long ago, the whole world was in awe as the iPhone took over the entire mobile phone industry by storm. The undeniable success of this device in the market marked Apple’s triumph in their leap towards a whole new industry. A company that established itself in the world of computers and laptops crossed the border into a relatively unknown world of mobile technology. Although they may not have been the first, they were definitely one of, if not the most successful company to do so. And now, Nokia wishes to replicate the same success as it too takes the leap; only this time, it’s the other way around. The Finnish telecom giants wishes to wow the world of portable computers with the upcoming release of the Nokia Booklet 3G.
The Apple Formula
Apple’s success in the industry could be greatly attributed to its ability to innovate. Even before the iPhone, Apple reestablished its name with the iMac which was then followed by the insurmountable achievements of the iPod. Both the iMac and the iPod were in no means cutting edge devices that introduced a whole new technology to the market. Instead, they made use of an already available technology and made their mark through an innovative design and an enhanced set of features. The result: success at the highest levels.
The iPhone is no different. Apple was definitely not the first to bring computer technologies to the mobile phone. However, their appeal was able to capture the market and as a result, the iPhone became an industry leader. The rest is history.
Nokia: Following in the Footsteps?
Nokia has long been revered for its highly-impressive accomplishments in the world of mobile phones. With the new Nokia Booklet 3G, they wish to transfer this success to the world of portable computers.
All the basic specs demonstrate the potential of the device to compete with the likes of the Acer Aspire or the Asus Eee line of netbooks: an ultra compact design, an extended battery life, and an HD-ready 10.1-inch screen to name a few.
However, if Nokia wishes to follow in the footsteps of Apple then it has to have the same innovative appeal. What the Nokia Booklet 3G lacks in revolutionary design, it makes up for in pioneering features. This device is one of the first netbooks to sport Smartphone features. 3G support, an A-GPS receiver, a SIM card slot, and some of Nokia’s best mobile phone applications are just some of them. Nokia hopes to transfer its successful mobile phone technologies to the new Booklet 3G. The question now is – will this formula be enough to replicate the unquestionable success of Apple with the iPhone? We’ll just have to wait and see.
