When buying a widescreen notebook, it can be a bit confusing to pick the right LCD. Generally, you are given a choice between WXGA, WSXGA and WUXGA notebook displays. What are these and which do you choose?
WXGA, WSXGA and WUXGA
The above acronyms are resolution standards for television and computer monitors. All of them refer to widescreen display standards: WXGA stands for Widescreen Extended Graphics Array; WSXGA for Widescreen Super Extended Graphics Array; and WUXGA for Widescreen Ultra Extended Graphics Array.
WXGA, WSXGA and WUXGA are not the only display standards for screen displays, but they are the most common in notebook computers. True to widescreen standards, all three of these have an aspect ratio in the range of 16/9 to 16/10. They mainly differ in their resolution (the number of pixels they can display on screen).
While all widescreen displays can use resolutions lower than their rated display, they provide the best image at their native resolution, which is also their maximum resolution. Keep in mind that a lower resolution is much easier on the eyes, so you will want to go with a native resolution that does not leave you squinting at the screen in your day-to-day use.
WXGA has a 1366×768 resolution, an aspect ratio of 16/9. WSXGA boasts a greater resolution at 1680×1050 and an aspect ratio of 16/10. WUXGA uses a resolution of 1920×1200 at an aspect ratio of 16/10.
What to Pick?
If you are buying a notebook computer for gaming purposes, you probably want a WUXGA screen for the sharpest image. If you are an HDTV subscriber and you plan to use your notebook computer as an HDTV receiver, WUXGA gives the very highest resolution available. WUXGA is also great for watching movies and viewing digital images due to the sharp rendering of images and pictures.
WUXGA is very convenient for multi-tasking, provided you can handle the small display size. This is perfect for working on two documents or web pages side-by-side, which can enhance productivity.
A WUXGA LCD can display greater amounts of detail than both WXGA and WSXGA, so you can see on the screen. This is not to say that WXGA and WSXGA have nothing to recommend them. In fact, WUXGA is not for everyone.
If the notebook computer does not have a powerful mobile GPU and a 17-inch or larger LCD, high-resolution gaming potential will be more difficult, as it takes a high-end GPU to push modern games to 1920×1200 resolutions. As mentioned, customers with less than excellent vision are better off choosing WXGA to get the largest text display. If you want a notebook display with medium-sized text, sharp images, and less than 17 inches of physical screen size, WSXGA is a good compromise, and the 1680×1050 resolution is nothing to sneeze at, by any means.

Android Phones
The new Android phones are phones that operate on the Linux Kernal mobile operating System. It was developed by Android Inc, and later purchased by Google. This system enables developers to write managed codes in the java language and control the device with Google developed Java libraries.
The Android Phones are the phones of the future because they combine the ultimate advances in mobile phones, video, cameras, PC’s and Navigation systems with multiple applications. The Phase development of the Android Phones started with the first model that had bugs and poor documentation, this was first introduced with the Sake Game-Android Development Phone. Next came the Android SDK it had a debugger, libraries, documentation, and tutorials. The final droid was the Android OS-Donut which added supports like voice search, priced applications and Gmail freeze fixes.
The Android OS system is important in this new system because it allows third party developers to create their own screen widgets. This allows for more applications and more opportunities for the manufacturer. The new Android Phones are being made by Google, Motorola, and HTC, LG, Dell and others breaking into the Smartphone market. The technology that it promises is ground breaking. The Android system acts like a robot, the user tells it what to do and it does it with supposed lightening speed.
The new Android Phones are basically bringing the desktop to the mobile phones. It allows for emailing, instant messaging, and web browsing all at the same time. It can run applications in the background while the user goes to a social network site. It also allows the user to listen to music and write an email at the same time, while talking on the phone. The possibilities are endless; the Android system allows several applications to run at the same time, just as a computer with windows does.
There are thousand of applications available for the Android phones and more are becoming available everyday. With the apps and the ability to multitask without having to shut down one act to do another is the new age of the mobile phones thanks to Goggles Android system. The new Android 2.0 is the latest in the line of Android systems to hit the market. The capabilities and promises are coming true very quickly as 2.0.1 stands ready for release.
Many people enjoy using the Android Phones already and sales have been phenomenal. Everyone wants a system that acts like a PC but is really a phone with all of the capabilities. The technology has just begun and there is more to come.

Mobile computing will never be the same with the advent of Seamless Wi-Fi’s S-Gen UMPC, or Ultra Mobile Personal Computer. In an era when computer manufacturers are developing smaller PC solutions to meet the nomadic nature of today’s consumers, the S-Gen stands out as one of the most robust, yet smallest, micro PC’s available on the market. It has already made appearances on the Montel Williams Show and at numerous shows in Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Massachusetts, and Washington, D.C.
Ultra mobile is a bit of an understatement. The S-Gen weighs a mere 16 ounces and measures in with a length of 6.5 inches, a width of 3.8 inches, and a depth of 1.25 inches. Despite its diminutive size, this “pocket” PC comes complete with a near full size keyboard, TFT touch screen display, and 20 GB hard drive. Of course, it also has all of the bells and whistles of other mobile products, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular wireless technology. Maybe surprising to some would be the fact that the S-Gen also features an integrated GPS system with internal antennae.
Of course, being able to map your location and see your destination is only useful if you have enough battery power to get you through to the end of your trip. Fear not, the Seamless Wi-Fi S-Gen has a battery life in excess of 8 hours. That is roughly 4 times longer than traditional laptop battery life and double the endurance of higher capacity notebook batteries. When you consider just how many functions the S-Gen is capable of, you will realize that you need every bit of those 8 hours. The S-Gen is essentially a tri-band cell phone, MP3 player, GPS navigation system, and mobile computer all wrapped up into one very portable package.
The S-Gen is so power-packed that it has been featured in PC Magazine, Laptop Magazine, The Mercury News, and The New York Post. Let’s not forget the S-Gen’s reviews on DL.TV, Geekzone, and ZDNet just to name a few. All of this positive publicity can only strengthen Seamless Wi-Fi’s sales numbers when the S-Gen officially launches on July 1, 2008. The estimated retail price is $1,195, a very reasonable value when you consider the four or five devices that this unit will replace when you purchase it.
Recently, at the “Money Show” in Las Vegas, Nevada, Seamless Wi-Fi demonstrated the many features of the S-Gen to businessmen from all over the world. One of the demonstrations that seemed to surprise some was the ability to take a SIM card from any wireless phone, pop it into the S-Gen and immediately begin making calls. The company received a lot of interest while at the show and is very optimistic about the sales potential of this one-of-a-kind product.
Seamless Wi-Fi, Inc. (SMWF), a development stage company, is an Internet company that is developing cutting edge technologies to create and provide new and innovative products and services for both businesses and consumers. The company is based in Las Vegas, Nevada, has three operating subsidiaries, and engages in the development and marketing of Internet communications products and services in the United States. The company provides wireless Internet access service known as wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) in Wi-Fi hot pots. It also develops software program that provides Wi-Fi users with Seamless-Secure Internet browsing, which encrypts the user’s Wi-Fi signal.
Seamless Wi-Fi recently announced the impending launch of a big brother to the S-Gen, the S-NBK-1 mini-notebook. The S-NBK-1, which is available now, contains a 10.2″ TFT screen, 1.6 GHZ processor, 512 MB RAM, 80GB hard drive, and Windows

The trends lead me to believe the computing we do at home will soon predominately reside “in The Cloud.” This means the applications we use and rely on everyday are not on our computer at home but in an application out on the Internet and accessed by your browser.
Move Yourself To “The Cloud”
Many folks have already made the move. Here are some of the typical things others have done and what you can do to make the switch yourself:
Use Google Docs as your basic productivity tools. Not only are they very effective and free tools, but they are on-line and available wherever you go (docs.google.com). You don’t need to buy Microsoft Office or even download the free Open Office at OpenOffice.org. I find that on my six year old PC, Google Docs will launch an application (e.g., Documents, Spreadsheet, GMail, etc.) in The Cloud faster than I can launch a Microsoft Office product (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) on my PC. Also, there is freedom in not being tied to that one PC sitting someplace where you can’t always get to it. A notebook works pretty well in this regard, but what happens when that notebook breaks or it goes missing? It kind of feels the same as when you lose your wallet or your keys. It does not feel good at all. With home computing in The Cloud, it is a problem to lose your equipment, but little of what you had been working on is lost. Use Mint.com, Quickenonline.com or other online financial tracking programs. First, they are currently free. That is one big advantage. They are not as good, in my opinion, as an installed program such as Quicken, at least not yet. However, if you are doing nothing other than wanting to track your current balances to ensure your cash flow is positive (i.e., not overspending), then these look like great tools. Use Facebook, LinkedIn or other social networking sites. These sites provide a powerful place to manage your social and professional life. This includes keeping in touch with family and friends and showing your photos, to staying networked with business associates and looking for that next big opportunity. Get your news from CNN.com, USAToday.com or get more focused news of interest from more specialized sites. For example, I pour through consumerist.com and pcmag.com for practical information I can use every day.
Access “The Cloud” From Anywhere
Because I’ve moved much of my mainstream computing to The Cloud, I find I can access it from just about any PC and from my mobile phone. Having my Cloud in my phone, which can browse the Internet, is a phenomenal tool. If the Palm Pre or the iPhone were to work with my wireless service provider, I would upgrade and give up my trusty Motorola A1200.
Use “The Cloud” But Backup Your Critical Data
Do keep backups of your data, especially data you need to access your sites on the web.
For passwords I use Password Safe which is free from sourceforge.net. This way I have all my passwords in one place. Consequently, I also have all those key sites I access in this same place. (This, I discovered, was very handy when I changed my e-mail account recently.) I backup the password file everyday to The Cloud using IDrive.com. I also do a monthly backup of the password file to a USB drive which I keep stored in a fire safe.
Be Secure In “The Cloud”
The scariest part of moving to the Cloud deals with the protection of your privacy and with security of your information. I admit this still worries me a bit. Can I really trust Google? Or how about trusting QuickenOnline.com with my financial data? We hear about data breaches every day. Some hacker broke in and stole personal information from thousands of customers. I have been notified more than once that this has happened at a company with which I do business. I have free credit monitoring right now due to a recent incident at an investment company.
I have also been called by my bank asking about charges made to my credit card. They turned out to be fraudulent and the bank removed the charges from my account. What was interesting is that I had just downloaded my most recent bank transactions into Quicken. I did not see these fraudulent charges. I immediately did another download of my bank transactions. There they were, along with transactions reversing the charges. My bank had detected and responded very quickly to these illegitimate activities.
My confidence in reasonable security in The Cloud is based upon my doing business over the Internet since the early 1990s when the Internet opened to commercial sites. The examples with my bank and with my investment company have helped reassure me that they are proactively trying to minimize the risk of loss. There is no guarantee of security. However, it is not obvious that your risk of loss is any greater in The Cloud than it is anywhere else.
“The Cloud” Is Here And Advertising Will Pay For It
I do believe that what we know as personal computing is moving into The Cloud. In the near future we will have much less reliance on a single piece of equipment loaded down with lots of pricey software, much of which we will never use.
Of course, like the broadcast media for decades, this Cloud is driven by advertising. So just as we once watched TV for free, before cable, and still listen to radio for free, it looks like we are going to a personal computing Cloud paid for by advertising. The personal computer will be needed to access The Cloud, but your software applications and information will be in The Cloud and not on your personal computer.

4G mobile technology is how people refer to the next generation of mobile services like the cell phones. It was just made available by at least one provider in a number of places in the US in 2009. Because it is still fresh, there is no established industry standard yet as to what constitutes 4G mobile. Thus, it is simply a marketing term in the mean time.
The letter G, used to shorten the word generation, in the mobile technology world covers the noticeable advances of the past 20-20 years. 1 G technology covered the first widely available mobile phones. Its successor, the 2G technology, began in the early 1990s – switching to a digital format and introduced the concept of text messaging. 3G technology made its mark by improving the way how data is carried, making it possible to have enhanced information services like websites in their original format. The famous iPhone is the best known example of this technology.
4G mobile technology is not yet established to have an agreed set of standards and protocols. This implies that its current features are simply goals and are not yet the full requirements. 4G mobile technology is still in the phase of developing enhanced security measures, since data transfer schemes are drastically increasing. Another 4G mobile technology goal is to overcome and minimize the blips in transmission when one device moves from one area to another covered by different networks. Another thing that 4G mobile technology is still working on is to figure out a way to use a network based on the IP address system used for the internet.
In the United States alone, there are two major systems using the 4G mobile technology. The first one is known as WiMax and is backed by Clearwire – a firm whose primary owner is Sprint Nextel. It began its testing phase of the system in Baltimore in 2008 and was set to expand overwhelmingly into major markets in 2009. The rival system is Long Term Evolution or LTE, which is backed by Verizon. It is expected to be ready for testing in 2010 but will not be available for use until 2012. LTE is hoping to overcome this disadvantage by providing faster speeds and producing cheaper equipment.
Unlike the previous generations of mobile technology, 4G mobile will be mainly used for internet access on computers and carrying cell phone communications. Customers in areas which have a strong 4G coverage can use it for a home broadband connection without needing any cables to be mounted in their household. It can also be used for accessing the internet outside the home without having to be stuck in a wireless hotspot like those that are offered by some coffee shops, airports and libraries.
